You might remember Samy my convalescent little guest who stayed with us until she recovered from a little complication after having been spayed. Well, she had had 4 kittens and her mother (my daughter Clora) could only place two at the time. She has kept the other two (Demi and Tara) who are now 4 months old, so that in fact Clora has now 4 cats -the two kittens and their parents. My daughter wants to have Demi and Tara spayed and she has been receiving contradictory information as to the right age to have this done. A couple of vets said to wait until they are 6 or 7 months old depending on their weight but her own vet -the one who spayed Samy- says that 5 months would be the perfect age as long as the kittens are healthy. He even says that the operation is a lot simpler and that being spayed so early may even avoid future health problems. This early operation would suit my daughter as she will have to absent herself later on and she wants to be at home to take care of the kittens during their convalescence. This time she cannot count with me as I will be away in France. Clora is scared stiff that if she goes away without having spayed the kittens she will come back to half a dozen or more new kittens!!
Has anyone heard about kittens being spayed at 5 months of age and this being even advantageous?
Many thanks for any info anyone could offer. Gladys
