Pets That Live Longer Than You: A Blessing or a Curse?

Wanted to post this here for everyone else to see who might not already be Best Friends Network members. It's a rather well written article (if I do say so myself Wink) and may hopefully make people think twice about wanting a parrot (or any long lived creature) as a pet...

    Hi Brian,

That was a very well written and good article about acquiring pets such as these. Many people don't think about this lifetime commitment with some of these parrots. I'm glad to read and hear that Victoria and Max have adjusted so well at the Best Friends sanctuary. Smile

GREAT TO SEE YOU AGAIN, BRIAN!!

And, thank you for a very informative article! There a bird store down the street from me that deals with parrots, Cockatoos and other exotic birds. I always want to take them ALL when I visit!

The two things that bother me most with exotics is their life span and do the people who buy them, really KNOW what is involved! Have they done their homework! Just breaks my heart to see birds abused because people don't have a clue and buy them because they are so pretty! Sad

AND, the bird doesn't understand when their owner dies and is no longer around...what then? Sad

I wish you and Amy all the best and I sure hope you will post more about parrots! I do receive Best Friends magazine and have been a supporter for a number of years.

Great article Brian and very important for prospective bird/pet owners to consider when choosing a pet.
