Thanks Brad. One can wonder if this is a love proposition which leaves indifferent the listening cat. Funny and interesting. A better interpretation?? Shi?? Gladys

Nope...definitely a "territory" thing! No love involved...Orange Tabby is trying to intimidate Black & White.

I have heard these sounds before. The one who "wins" is the one who is in his own territory...well, usually...too bad they didn't show what finally happened. I will assume that the Orange Tabby was the winner...IF the Black & White cat doesn't leave, a fight is next...

There are Toms who have some very interesting vocalizations...to the chagrin of those who are awakened in the middle of the night!

BTW, my daughter and I can imitate cat sounds very well!!! Hisssst! pffffffet! low growl... hilarious

Oh yeah, and the person who posted "senile talking cat" is nuts....senility has nothing to do with it and that Orange Tabby is NOT senile! The person, no doubt, meant the vocalizations.

Yes, I agree with Shi. This was definitely the prelude to a possible fight.

Gladys isn't totally wrong either, because I have heard cats make similar sounds (the males) when they are calling to a female in heat.

Cats can make some interesting sounds. For instance, this is the sound one of my cats (Fraidy Cat) used to make right before he threw up!!! This video is not my cat, just one I found that matched his sounds.

The tux cat was ready to stand his ground, maybe he's thinking "the tire's got my back." Wink His ears weren't even awfully flattened.

I think the cat in the video Lin posted probably threw up shortly after the clip ended; he's licking his chops like mine do just before they barf a hairball, and was making the same kind of "belly hurts" yodel. silent

Hello Robin, How nice to have a specialist in cats amongst us. Thank you for your input; it is true that the tux cat doesn't seem impressed by the orange cat's verbosity, he seems to think Talk to the hand .
TO THE FORUM!!! Will be happy to hear about your pets. Gladys

lol I totally agree with your statement and emoticon, Gladys. Wink The cat on the defensive seems very unbothered by the other cats' screaming. Wink

    FUN!!

Hi, Robin!! Another cat person...how great!! DO tell us about your cats and their adventures.

Yes, cats, can certainly have some "funny" sounds. Don't always "mean" the same thing with different cats. 'Course, one can't usually mistake a "hairball" attack...with or without introductory vocalizations!

AND, there are some cats who are definitely "talkers..." The Siamese come to mind...now, there is a distinctive sound!

AND, I agree, there can be a "thin" line between "love" and "hate" sounds!! affraid

Welcome to the forum Robin! cheers Great to see you posting!

Regarding the cat confrontation, I'm always intriqued by the body language that cats display in such situations, especially those who are in the submissive position. They will move ever so slowly as if the other cat won't notice them and they will keep their heads in the down position since making eye contact with the 'enemy' is just asking for real trouble!! I think they just know who has the upper hand (as the ginger cat very obviously did) and decide it is best to keep their 'cool' in such a confrontation. Shocked

Mmmm, could be something wrong with the way it was formed OR he could be a Polydactyl (many toed). Polys look like they have "mittens" for feet. REALLY something to see a cat with all FOUR paws "many toed!"

My orange tabby, Freddy, was a Polydactyl...

BTW, probably the only reason the orange didn't attack right away was because of the more "submissive" attitude of the tuxedo cat. However, who knows what happened after the camera stopped recording!
