I live on the New Jersey shore. Need to find a home for a tame rescued pigeon that I'm falling in love with and am unable to keep..Anyone have any ideas or contacts in this area?
Sweet rescued pigeon in New Jersey needs a good home..

Hi Barbara,
You never updated us on how the pigeon was doing and you're already looking for someone to adopt it? It may not be fully recovered yet and isn't it a wild pigeon? How's it eating, how are the poops, how is it's wing? Please let us know how the bird is and if possible you should keep it for the short term until it's healthy again for sure. If it's a wild pigeon, he should be released again into the wild when it's ready.
Here's a good thread to read about release criteria as well but please update us on the pigeon before you do anything.

Ok Barbara, I just now realized that you've uploaded pictures of the pigeon in your gallery. Hmmm, the bird doesn't look very good to me, is there a band on it's leg? Looks like I see something yellow on it's leg in one of the pics. The tameness could be illness and weakness rather than a truly friendly bird.

Hi Barbara,
Please review your original Thread...
This Pigeon is injured, probably ill, and, even if you are new to it, he deserves to have a fairly detailed superficial examination desribed to us, in order for those here willing or able to help, to postulate specific attentions/regimens he will need in order to survive and heal/get-well.

I did tell everything there is to know about the bird. His right wing is drooped but can still spread out full when picked up. He is standing on both feet strong (when I found him his right foot was tucked and he sat alot). He is drinking plenty of water when given to him with a spoon by hand. Have not seen him eat anything. I have wild bird seed, milllet, and thawed frozen peas for him but doesn't look like he touched it. I've had him for two days now. The problem is my husband is freaking out (not an animal lover) because I have a child with cancer and a depressed immune system from chemotherapy in the house and he afraid of "diseases". If I could I would be there for the bird 24/7 but I have to drive my son 2 hours to the hospital everyday for his chemo and I want to be fair to this bird. I hate to leave him in a cage all day but if I don't the neighbors cats will eat him. I don't have any money to take him to a specialist....What can I do now? any suggestions? Oh yea, yesterday his poop was normal, today green (I read Brads new post) so mabey he didhave a pea last night. Please help!

Hi Barbara,
Thank you again for rescueing this lovely Pigeon.
Please do your best, and, as quickly as possible, to get this Pigeon to an experienced rehabber.
He does not have very much time left, for receiving the speific evaluation and treatment he needs, if he is going to survive.

Hi Barbara,
Did you have any luck with the information that either Ed or Renee posted on rehabbers? We are all concerned for this pigeon you found and feel that it is in worse shape than it might appear to you. We all applaud you for coming here to post your questions and concerns because it's not often that a person takes a genuine interest in a down and out pigeon. Please let us know what is going on when you can. We do care and only want to help you with the bird.
BTW, you seem like a real adventurous person and according to your profile!
You also sound like a real animal lover and that is something you'll find that we all have in common here. Stay in touch please and let us know what's happening.
