Yes, mold is not good for any creature to consume. Think about cleansing those containers out more regularly in very HOT soapy water daily and letting them air dry in the sun. Either this or use new jugs regularly.

Scrubbing with baking soda also helps to get rid of it.

Soap...Water...a slug of Bleach, and a handful of coarse Sand or Gravel...fill about 1/4th full...put the lid on...and shake well for several minutes...then rinse.

Best to use a wide mouth Container for these things, which is easy to scrub or steralize between uses...

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy a new "jug of juice???" Head scratcher

Adamant, I only have one pigeon, but I had the same problem but it was in the winter and I had the jug in the refrigerator. You really have to watch those plastic jugs especially if it was filled with another product. I just threw it away and bought another plastic container at the store. DO NOT use hot water for some reason it helps to create mold, I would recommend cold with soap and water and bleach. Also Oxiclean is good. Easier is just to purchase another clean unused container.. With my humming bird containers you have to heat the water with sugar and you have to let it sit at room temperature and I put container in refrig after it gets the same temp as the other container I pour it into the other container. If not it will get black mold/bacteria in the container. It is a chemistry thing...
    Hope that helped !
Some good advice has been given on the posts.

I have had that happen to my waterers also.
I add Naturline to their water (Vitamins)
I have two for each section now and always have one soaking in a tub ob bleach water while they use the other one.
I swap them out once a week.

In my opinion, a water container should always be used for just water and any other supplements such as vitamins should be made up in a separate container and then added to the water. These should be washed after each use and allowed to dry naturally to prevent the build up of mold and bacteria.

    Yes...I agree

These things readily begin to spoil in-a-day even...as will any residue...

The Common Waterers themselves should be scrubbed each day, before re-freshing/refilling...also, of course, especially if they have had Water-with-Vitamin Supplements in them.

Water Bowls or Common Waterers which only have plain Water should be scrubbed out well each day, also...as the Bird's saliva and or reflux when they drink, enters the Water, and, will soon become a Germ/Bacterial or Mold nurture.

    Yes, why worry?

Just wash it out daily or get a container that is easy to wash out daily.

It will take all of two minutes and you can eliminate any stress or worry.
