    Hi All,
Has anyone seen any info on useing rabbit pellets as a supplement in the diet? A bag I have is 16% protein has calcium lots of vitamins and B12 and a whole bunch more good stuff. Sounds good but would like to find out more. Thanks Friend Mike

    Hi Mike,

You might want to read this topic. Plamenh has given us all suggestions to supplement pigeons' diets with rabbit pellets. Since they (rabbits and pigeons) are both herbivores and vegetarians, both of these animals diets are very, very similar and when artificially recreated by humans. Wink

    Yes...rabbit pellets are great!

Sure helps to have a grinder tho...mashing those suckers up by hand is a pain!

I know Phil likes them as snacks but they taste too dry for me and I'm not that gung-ho the flavor. 'Course, could be the brand I have...bought a bag at the pet store and I have enough pellets for a year - give or take! affraid

Actually, I think that the pellets some feed their pigeons are designed to be "balanced." However, since pigeons don't get "pellets" in the "wild," I can certainly understand about feeding grains/seeds.

I think some prefer the pellets, tho, because many pigeons will pick out the seed/grains they like and may not be getting all the nutrition they need. Also, the pellets may not be "thrown" like seeds, and cause less waste. Squeaks will toss out some of his seeds into the box where I keep his food dish. I just pour them back! Takes care of that!

Rabbit pellets were suggested as another way to get "greens." I have tried the rabbit ones with pretty good success. Mr. Squeaks, who gobbles pieces of dark green lettuce that I drop to him (we play the "Green Game!"), will also eat some of the rabbit pellets. I break them into little pieces. I figure if he can eat those big peas that come with his seeds, he can eat these smaller pieces! (we also play "Drop the PEA(s) Game!)

IF THE PIGEON EAT SOME GRAINS AND OTHER TRASH IT, THAT PIGEON ISN´T HUNGRY, I KNOW ABOUT THE RACERS, THEY FEED THEIR PIGEONS WITH 35GRS OF GRAIN BY DAY, I USE THAT SISTEM AND GOES VERY GOOD, IN MY BREED LOFT ARE MANY PIGEONS FREE, AND NO ONE IS MALNOURISHED

You are absolutely correct about over feeding!

I had to start feeding less because Mr. Squeaks and my other pijies are sure not looking starved!! Squeaks still seems determined to throw some seeds! Shocked

I do have one pigeon, Dom, who will throw out some seeds and then eat them from the "floor" of his home. Messy, but effective! Rolling Eyes

Hi Ed, I think the brand name is Small World, picked up a small bag at Wally World to try out. The birds are eating it down at the same time as the seeds. It comes in small enough pieces they have no problems and seam to like it. I do not race my birds yet but plan to in the future.

    Hello Palamero,
No problem with coherence. I agree rabbit pellets only, not good.
