    Trash to Treasure

Post  nyboy on Tue Mar 16, 2010 10:26 am

Last night coming home from dinner I spotted a bookcase at the curb. My friend was horrified when i asked him to help me load it in the car! Told him to think of it as being recycled not garbage picking. All I need to do is add fronts and I have 4 stacked nesting boxes. I have my eye out for a window.what do you have in your lofts from the curb? alex

Hi Alex, I don't think I have anything "from the curb" at home but I cannot think of a better destiny for a bookcase which has lived housing books than to "reincarnate" as a nesting box housing the miracle of life Good for you.

    Hi Alex,

Good find and I agree with everyone, why not use something like that? There are lots of instances where something thrown out by one person, can be used by another. I don't have a loft and I don't have anything in my pigeon room that I found. However, I do have a TV stand that I "got" years ago from the curb that I still use and have today! Very Happy

Wow Alex, good post. I live in a college town and you wouldn't believe what the students throw out when they
head home for the summer, some of the stuff still looks new. I've got 3 steel framed bunk beds, twin on top, full
on bottom. A wooden corner TV stand, a table and 6 chairs. These went to the cabin. For the loft I got 3 plastic
shelving units that I turned into nest boxes. I bought one to make 4. I added lath and 1x6's to fronts and sides.
They work great. Big enough for 2 nest bowls and room enough for the squabs to move around. Plus I can spray them off with a hose and they are cleaned up in a few minutes. Dayton has at least 10 bikes that he got from the students garbage piles.
