I love Canada Geese... honk-honk, honk-honk. They tie into many fond memories of vacations, camping trips and golf games. They like to loiter on local greens (critics) and make golfers nervous... I just wade through and get my ball, they don't seem to mind.

    Edit: Corrected for Hugh.

Just to be a little pedantic..... Bird watcher's ears are very sensitive to the misuse use of the adjective "Canadian" when describing Canada Geese. Another term rarely used by birders is Seagulls.

Oh Boy, now you've done it HUGH! lol! You've called Cyreen on her adjective use of the word "Canadian"....Wink Razz I wonder how the Canada goose got it's name anyway and since they are ALL OVER the USA too and I think they have always been. Seagull is a very generic term for those birds, I will agree however. If I don't know the proper name for a gull, I usually just refer to it as a "gull" and to avoid being lambasted by professional birders. Wink Here where I live, we have mostly Ring Billed gulls...these are the birds in town with the other gregarious and predominant birds. Occasionally I will see a Herring gull or two fly overhead and you can tell what they are because they are MUCH larger, raven sized birds. Smile

If you want to get technical, right now they're Canadian. They're currently on our golf greens.

I think that WAS ME, Brad...I apologized and CHANGED my "Canadian" to Canada - which probably made things a little confusing...

I thought "seagulls" were the birds seen on the seashores?! Such as who live on crab and fish?

I thought they were those birds that hang out in McDonald's parking lots and live on cold french fries?

Here in the USA many non-migratory Canada Geese are looked upon quite unfavorably. What many people failed to realize is that these birds are taught to migrate by their parents. When people brought young ones in to populate the parks and golf courses to make the places look nice, they should not have been surprised when the birds did not leave. Now there is an ever expanding population of sedetary birds providing lots of fertilizer.

Oh, goody! I'm NOT alone! Thanks, Cyreen...couldn't have asked for a better "partner!" cheers

Mmmmm, I thought Seagulls were Seagulls but with different "kinds."

Gladys, I LOVE the picture of the Pelican you posted! Love those birds! We occasionally get Brown Pelicans here who get blown off course.

Gee, Gladys....I am SOOOO sorry to break this news to you, but whoever posted that picture as a SEAGULL does NOT know their birds!! Shocked

That is a PELICAN...look at the beak....google Seagull and Pelican and the difference is VERY apparent. I HAVE seen enough Seagulls AND Pelicans to see the difference...especially since my Dad retired in St. Pete, FLORIDA. They have LOTS there...

Then, again, hard to tell if you were only teasing me...if you are, my apologies...*sigh* English...such a strange language.... pale affraid

Oh dear...AND, since you laughed so hard...I'm being TEASED??? Embarassed redfaced

Alright, I admit the beak is a bit long for a seagull but isn't it too short for a pelikan? Perhaps it is the result of seagull/pelikan mating Nevermind; I surrender but I did enjoy my At leasr I've got that much out of it all. Thanks Shi.

For LAUGHTER...ALL IS FAIR... cheers hilarious

While the beak may be a little short, it's that "pouch" UNDERneath that made the difference...
