What sort of cage/enclosure are you going to be showing them in and how big.
I can tell you that pigeons are not grasping birds so they do not like to use rounded perches but they can use them in a pinch.
I dont show pigeons but there must be many images on google. Search for show pigeons or perhaps pigeon shows .

first off, here is an excellent article from Oregon State University on showing pigeons at the 4H level. It explains lots including the construction of perches.

I also looked at images of pigeon shows and it appears that most birds are kept in a small cage without perches. Search google images for show pigeons.
