Many, I would say: wooing their mates, letting us know they are hungry, making angry noises to defend their territory, cooing when we pet them. I'm sure there must be other purposes I can't think of. The little ones squeak to be fed and to show their pleasure. Other purposes??

Indeed, when one has indoor pigeons, one can hear many vocalizations! Watch and listen to learn the meanings.

Flirting, mating, protecting territory, anger, hunger...pigeons can and do communicate, of course - in their own language. All we have to do is listen and observe.

Over time, you, too, can speak "pigeon!" And, with more than one pigeon, one can even learn "which" one is "speaking." I can always tell Woe from the males. And, Dom and Gimie; even, Rae Charles.

Of course, I "talk" to Squeaks all the time! Wink Very Happy

Pigeons make a few types of sounds. The primary call used by males to attract mates and defend territories is coo roo-c’too-ooo. From their nests they might say oh-oo-oor to attract their mates… When they are startled or scared they might make an alarm call like: hooorhh! Pigeon babies make nonvocal sounds such as bill snapping and hissing. After mating, males often make Clapping sounds with their wings.
I like the alarm call it tells me when Danger is around, The Hawk, Cat and even People First you will see them look then They will perk up straight and "hooorhh" all the other birds are then warned of the possible or present Danger…
