I don't know anything about Lava rocks except that small animals lay on them. I bought some for some feed dishes one time for they were shallow enough for baby pigeon food so that they could reach them (of course when they go on seed they can reach higher) but I did not know at the time and wanted to make sure they could eat and drink and thats the only experience I ever had with them. Don't know my friend and I keep help you with your question. Head scratcher Head scratcher I would be careful with it until you find out the right answer one that you can trust..... Reindeer Reindeer santa I love you

    Hi Louie,

I've never heard of this either. I have a red grit and it contains a lot of different looking little crushed up particles, some are black. Would these be crushed lava rocks?

Where did you hear or read about this? Is it something new that is on the market for pigeons? Can you provide some more information? lol Sorry for all the questions. Wink

    .
Hello C.hert & Brad, I use both Red & White(Gray) Grit every week to ten days, I Also add Wood Charcoal, Sea salt and Oyster Shells… The Wood Charcoal & Sea salt that I buy is Natural with no Additives or Chemicals… The Wood Charcoal comes in lumps that I Crush into very fine pieces almost into dust with the head of a small sledgehammer… I have never read any articles or come across any Pigeon Fancier that has used Lava rocks as a Grit…?… Like every thing I do, especially when it come to the Wellness of my Birds, I conducted an extensive, fact finding approach on the Elements found in Natural Lava rocks & all the Different Types and Found Many trace elements that should be beneficial to the Birds… About 3 Months ago I started feeding it to the Birds after it was crushed in the same manner I did with the Charcoal, I placed about ½ cup in a Conner of the Grit box and Watched…Wow and the Birds Loved it…!… I have now included Lava Rocks it in my routine Grit Mix…
1 Part Red Girt or 1 part Gray Grit or Both,
    1 part Charcoal,
    1 part Oyster Shells,
    ½ Part Lava rock and
½ Teaspoon of Natural Sea salt…
    Then Mix Well Together…
I have used Red clay in the Past, But also be very Careful where you get it From…!
Attention; Fellow Pigeon Fanciers, Please beware that not all Lava Rocks and other Items mentioned above are Processed in the Same Manner, Many have dyes and other chemicals that are sold on the market… I don’t Recommend anyone to place their birds at risk if you’re not sure about the use of Lava rock sold in your Area, The tests I conduct are after a Thorough full, detailed, and systematic research that I run before I feed my birds anything new… If you don’t have the Time, Resources and know-how approach on how to do Systematic Investigation (organized study) Then Please stick to the Proven Basics and don’t put your birds at Risk…

    Louie
