Looking for a tame pigeon to adopt

Post  camille on Fri Oct 31, 2008 9:40 pm

    Hello,

I am just hoping to get another pigeon for a companion pet (just recently had a beautiful, yellow bar homer escape and he/she was to skittish to coax back) escape from her crate and have been very sad about it Sad .

I have had pigeons as a young girl some rescued ferals, birmingham rollers, and indian fantails and loved them all and would love to have adopt/purchase a young squab/ or older adult that would be pretty tame.

There are not many breeders around my area of Monroe, Louisiana, although I did contact someone who breeds giant homers.

I do have two rescued, neutered house cats, and suprisingly enough, they really did not show any agression towards my pigeon and were actually afraid of him/her!

Any advice would certainly be appreciated. I did have my homer shipped, but of course would love to adopt/purchase from around my home town. I would also love to provide a home for a bird someone needs to rehome and will certainly pay for shipping if needed Smile

    Thank you,

    Camille Rosatto

    Hi Camille,

Perhaps you can contact Siegels and they might be able to assist you in finding a pigeon in your area. Siegels is based in Jeanerette, LA, not sure how close that is to you, but they still might have a list of breeders.

Another thing you might try is going to your local animal shelter or adoption agency and see if they have any pigeons there. Hopefully some of our other members might have a suggestion or two as well for you.Smile

looking for a pigeon for pet

    Hello,

I do appreciate the kind advice. Recently checked on a recent website called The ultimate pigeon page, I believe and contacted someone who raises old classic frills, figuritas, pouters and saxon shield pigeons.

May be getting a new baby, possible almost 2 month old double saxon monk shield which I have been looking up on information for the past few days. Getting a little excited and hopefully if it goes well will have a new pigeon friend. Will be glad to post a picture as soon as I get a digital camera and figure out how to download pictures on my computer (yes, and I am a little technologically lazy!)

My husband is excited about the possibility of a new pigeon pet soon. I feel very lucky to have found someone who cares about animals like me and feel very lucky to have met some great folks since joining the forum.

    Thanks again,

    Camille
