Weasels...deadly, vicious predators for your pigeons and other pets

The reason I'm writing this thread is to inform folks of these
predators that they might not otherwise think about being a problem for
    your pigeons or other pets.

There are several species of them in North America and one of them can be found practically anywhere on this continent.

All are small, long bodied animals that can get into the smallest of
holes and cracks. They are ferocious, determined and highly intelligent
    hunters.

Here is a website that shows the range of the long tailed weasel and it's found over most of the United States.

I've never seen one of these critters. Don't care too either. People worry about "things" getting to their birds. IF a persons loft is built correctly, they don't have to worry about such things. Lofts do not have to be Taj Mahals...........but they DO have to be secure. That means no holes/spaces between boards and the correct size wire for any aviaries. When someone posts about something killing their birds other than hawks,......it really gets under my skin. 9 times out of 10, something simple could have kept the killings from taking place in the first place, and 9 1/2 times out of 10, it's someone who KNOWS better, but just doesn't do or fix what they KNOW needs to be done or fixed. Mad

    Hi Renee,

I agree completely. I think sometimes people become complacent and if nothing happens in a long time, they think their birds/pets are safe. If you have a compromised loft, pen, or house for your pet, it's best to fix it ASAP and prevent something from happening because something could happen at any given moment from many different threats.
