So cute - I saw that not too long ago while browsing You Tube - the people also had one of Mocha when it was really tiny.

There used to be a girl that lived down the road from me that raised, showed and judged hamsters. She really knew her stuff. I went over a couple of times to see the babies. Sometimes the Momma's eat some of their babies. I thought that was awful but it's just something they do and it didn't bother Rebecca. Shocked

    Lindi,

Didn't you once have a hamster that you thought had passed away, but it hadn't. It had gotten cold somehow and went into hibernation mode???? You warmed it up and it came back to life?

This is ringing a bell for me, but I could be wrong.

OMG! You remembered! Yes Lin, you are absolutely correct! I had to thaw my dear little Minstrel many times during the colder months as he aged. He finally passed over on 3rd March last year aged 3 which is a good age for a hamster. Towards the end of his life, he was really bony and I had an especially hard time keeping him warm as it was still winter. I had to syringe feed him in the end, but he went peacefully in his sleep. Fortunately I knew that hamsters hibernate and recognised the signs, but so many pet owners mistakenly burry their little pets thinking they have died. Sad

I would have posted his picture again, but I don't have his photo on this computer.

Wow, I'm proud of myself! LOL My memory isn't what it used to be. redfaced

I think your story stood out for me because the same thing almost happened to me many years ago concerning a hermit crab. Every once in awhile, they seem to go into a sort of hibernation mode while they're getting ready to shed their exoskeleton, because of the body growing. They can remain still like that for quite a few days and appear to be dead. I was glad that I had read up on hermit crabs so I was able to recognize what was happening.
