Need home for Red Feather
Please help! My moms leukemia has come back and she is 85. I am going to move in with her with my son and take care of her. We can not afford nursing care full time. I think it would be best to find a home for Red Feather. He needs more time to heal and more one on one time than I can give. I have the very large dog carrier, nice water and seed containers, 2 bags of pigeon food, 1 bag of pigeon grit, prime supplements. I do not and will not post somewhere else than people who have pigeons and know what a joy they are. I live in Phoenix, AZ and can pay to have him shipped or whatever I need to do. I do love him but I have to be with my mom right now. Please help me find a wonderful home.

Hi Gay,
I'm sorry to hear about your latest development.
I completely understand and respect your need to look after your mom. Thanks for letting us know and perhaps Shi could take the pigeon temporarily from you and since she's very close by. I don't want to put any pressure on Shi either, but maybe she would be happy to take the pigeon for the short term.
Very sorry that your situation has changed and things with your mother are worse.
Thanks for letting us know and we'll try hard to get your pigeon into another home if we can.
Keep in touch though, don't just forget about us!

Re: Need home for Red Feather
So sorry to hear about your mom and you having to find Red Feather a new home.
Shi does know of a few pigeon keepers in AZ. so she may be able to help, unless you can find someone in one of the warm states I wouldn't ship him north the weather has been to unpredictable, in my opinion. I would hate for him to get lost and the weather turn very cold.
He is a beauty and I'm sure you won't have a problem finding him a loving home.

I honestly believe It's a BOY!
He loves to circle females on his outings and even brings home a couple now and then. i just don't know if he will be able to have his outings until he is 100%. One minute he's are raring to go and on his way and then he returns and has to lay down for a few days. Once he is back on his feet he is dancing in circles. here is a picture I just took.
Thanks,
Gay

Thanks,
Gay

Re: Need home for Red Feather
I am so sorry to hear that your mom is sick and that you have to rehome Red Feather. He is a very beautiful pigeon, and if I didn't live so very far away, I'd have him in an instant.
I know you will pick the right home for him. It would certainly be a great thing if someone from the forum could take care of him, giving you piece of mind and hopefully continued contact with yourself (and us) with regard to his well-being. We've grown fond of yourself and your lovely Red feather's adventures. Please keep in touch when you can.
Thinking of you.
Hugs,
Lindi

Re: Need home for Red Feather
I am really sorry to hear about your mom, Gay! All of us are certainly sending our best!
The problem is that Red Feather's home is in that area. He comes and goes. I'm afraid that if someone did take him, he would try and fly back. He certainly is a handsome pij! No wonder he is bringing mates(?) home!
I am really pushing my luck with the four I have now. Mine do not fly outside.
Right now, the only suggestion would be a place he would be free to come and go and be safe from predators.
However, perhaps the following information may help...
There is a Rehab/Rescue/Education organization called Fallen Feathers, run by Jody Kieran in Peoria, AZ...
Ph: Cell...623-533-2348...home: 623-566-0155. Website address: www.fallenfeathers.org or jody@fallenfeathers.org
Hopefully, Jody may be able to give you suggestions...
Sure hope this information help!!
Love and Hugs

Re: Need home for Red Feather
Red Feather is a pet. I wouldn't want it any other way. Good morning to all. Red Feather is happy as a pigeon. He greeted me this morning with all kind of noises and dancing. He even ran back and forth in the cage like he was playing with me. He will be going to the vet this week and get a clean bill of health and any vaccinations he needs before he heads to the Big New York. I think maybe my mood has strengthened knowing I have a home for him. Can't wait for the weather to stay a little warmer in NY for a few days and then off he goes. Pigeonluver, you are the greatest. I will keep in touch. Everyonw have a wonderful Sunday.
Thanks,
Gay

Shipping birds this time of year
I don't know how much you guys know about shipping birds. Maybe you already know all of this, but, to err on the side of caution, I'll post anyway.
PLEASE PLEASE check the weather good from point A to point B before shipping. The PO has regulations as to what temps are acceptable for shipping, but TRUST me, most of them don't know or don't pay attention or don't care. Don't think the if the PO thinks it's too cold or thinks the weather is going to be bad, they'll tell you and not accept the birds. If you're there with $$'s in hand, they'll ship them. It's up to YOU to check.
Don't ship any day other than Mon, Tue. I would normally add Wed in there, but since this bird is going across country, I wouldn't risk any days later.
The day you ship the bird, keep food and water in front of the bird all day. Do not put any food or water in the box. It's not necessary and the box is dark anyway, so they won't eat or drink.
I've shipped birds many times and have had problems just twice. One bird going from VA to NE just a few months ago, got routed wrong and went to PA and OH and it took 4 days for the bird to get to it's destination. The bird was fine, but things CAN go wrong. That's why you really need to check the weather and make sure that at least the next 5 days are going to be ok.
That's the gist of things I guess. If you've got any questions, just ask. Good luck to Red Feather. He's one lucky little birdie.

Thanks for posting that Renee. At this time of the year nobody knows what the weather is going to do.
