Hi Gang,

Remember the old cartoon the Road Runner? I used to love that old show when I was a kid and the theme song was really catchy too! Found some interesting videos of REAL road runners and they are a mighty interesting and funny bird. I'll have to ask Shi if she ever sees them in AZ or perhaps she can tell us when she gets back.

The real road runner has a superficial resemblance to it's cartoon depiction, but it doesn't go "Meep Meep" and it's not purple or blue. Still, they are fast footed birds with really long tails and a funny looking crown of feathers on it's head.

I've always liked The Roadrunner too!

I've never seen a real one before.

Got a kick out of that last video. Poor guy, no matter how fast he would run behind that mirror, he never did catch the "other" roadrunner!

yea, used to love The Roadrunner.......I've never seen a real one either. Where do they live? Out west in the desert? That tail wagging kills me........

Those were great Brad. Especially the one with the mirror. That bird kept running behind the mirror to catch that bird. I'm still laughing.

We have them here is So. Calif. I think they are all across the southwest. Mostly in desert and chaparal. They are pretty good sized. They love lizards. I think those and frogs are their primary diet, although they will eat bugs and whatever they can catch.

OMG Brad... Been all over the US and I have never seen a Roadrunner in person.... I really liked those videos....the one video with the cat was cute... Did you see the fur on the back of that cat..... I also especially enjoyed the one with the mirror .... that was sooooooo cute !!!!! Thanks

Haha, nice videos. Especially the last one, with the nice close-up in the beginning It's like he was checking to make sure the camera was running before he started his act.

What an interesting bird! I've never seen a real one either...well..I'm not going to, living here, but this is the first film footage I've seen of them. I loved the tail wagging also! These were really interesting and entertaining videos Brad. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Thanks for watching and being interested in this bird. I thought it was a good educational thread that shows the bird and it's behaviours. We don't have them here in Canada either, they are desert birds from the southern USA only as Peaches mentioned. BTW, good to see you back here posting again Peaches.

I find them to be quite comical but very interesting birds. I really liked the mirror video too, it was hilarious! And Carol, yes the one with the cat was really something as well. Did you see the way that cat jumped when the roadrunner came back to the window!?! I just love they way they move and how they run.
